Herbert S. Scott (1931-2006) was an American poet and founding editor of the literary New Issues Poetry & Prose. He is the author of Disguises (University of Pittsburgh Press, 1974), Groceries (University of Pittsburgh Press, 1976), Durations (Louisiana State University Press, 1984), Sleeping Woman (Carnegie Mellon University Press, 2005), and a collection of selected poems, The Other Life (Carnegie Mellon University Press, 2010). Scott was a professor of English at Western Michigan University from 1968 to 2004.

New Issues Poetry & Prose was started in 1996 as a nonprofit literary press. New Issues has been funded in part through grants from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Eric Mathieu King Fund and the Greenwall Fund of The Academy of American Poets; and from the Pharmacia and Upjohn Foundation, the Fetzer Institute, the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo, and Bell’s Brewery, Inc., as well as anonymous donors.
